Shoshin Taught Me Everything

The beginner mindset...

is the translation of Shoshin in Zen Japanese Buddhism. It was my earliest and greatest lesson. To this day I continue to move, think and teach from a place of Shoshin.

23 years of a life dedicated to learning and continuously educating myself of the capabilities of the human body. 

It was clear to me from a young age that it wasn't about a specific movement pattern, quite the opposite. I came to the realisation that I simply loved everything movement..

Movement is movement what ever shape

In a world where comfort has taken over our ability to use our bodies to think, react & play we wait until we are broken to do something about it. But what if we stopped focusing on changing what we already have, rather than appreciating what we can achieve just as we are?

It's in the understanding and knowledge that our bodies aren't designed to move in one way, in fact the more dynamic and diverse we are with movement the more we support the bodies ever adapting attitude to life.

 

For example ground movement which is where we all begin is abandoned at a young age and for most never to return. Implementing a regular ground movement practice promotes healthy joints, mobility, stability, metabolic health and many other factors while having fun. 

Within a mixed movement practice the possibilities are wide and offer much insight to our capabilities. A mixed movement practice strengthens not  only the body but the mind too.
